Brussels, March 13th – This Tuesday, the European Parliament endorsed the trilogue agreement on the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). This marks a major milestone towards the decarbonisation of the European building stock.
GD4S welcomes this revised legislation, which endorses the “fabric first” principle which prioritizes improving the thermal performance of building envelope before investing in the technical system to avoid overengineering costs, creates a solid framework for ensuring a progressive transition away from fossil fuel-based heating systems, while leaving no consumers without a reliable and affordable heating solution.
Brussels 23rd May – The day after the publication of the RePowerEU action plan, a delegation of GD4S representatives led by its President, Narcís de Carreras, CEO of Nedgia, met with the EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson. Laurence Poiriez-Dietz, CEO of French DSO GRDF, and Dan Pantilie, CEO of Romanian DSO DGSR, also took part in the meeting.
The meeting took place at a turning point in EU energy and climate policy, amid the energy crisis and the War in Ukraine. The RePowerEU plan sets an EU objective of 35 bcm biomethane production by 2030 to reduce Europe’s reliance on Russian gas imports. It was therefore the right moment to highlight the concrete contribution of DSOs in achieving these renewed ambitions.
On September 20 GD4S in collaboration with E.DSO organize a webinar to encourage and extend the debate on sector coupling and its challenges by exploring new and innovative ideas and technologies which could facilitate the coupling of the electricity and gas sectors
Brussels, 3rd June 2021 - The potential of renewable gases, the strategic role of gas distribution networks and the commitment of Distribution System Operators (DSOs) to meeting shared climate ambitions, form the basis of ‘Gas grids - a key enabler of decarbonisation’, a White Paper published today by Gas Distributors for Sustainabiltiy (GD4S), the EU's European gas association in which participate the seven major DSOs from seven countries.
